Fact Finding in Tiruttani

An 11-year-old schoolboy from Kondapuram in the R.K. Pettai Taluk near Tiruttani was eating his lunch while sitting on a side wall near the ramp leading to his classroom during the lunch break. The wall collapsed on him, and the student died on the spot. After knowing this, the Tamil Nadu Dalit Women’s Movement and the Tamil Nadu Women’s Forum visited the site, met the student’s parents, and demanded that the government provide adequate compensation to the student’s family and offer a government job to one family member. The movement also urged the School Education Department to properly maintain school buildings and demanded that a case be registered and disciplinary action be taken against the Headmaster, the District Chief Educational Officer, and the District Educational Officer.
