Field based studies and advocacy-A study on Farmers' Suicides in Tamilnadu

SRED conducts field based study to understand social issues and carry out advocacy. SRED along with Tamilnadu Federation for Women Farmers’ Rights conducted a study on farmers’ suicide in six districts of Tamilnadu in 2017. The study highlighted on immediate relief and compensation and the long time recommendations for women farmers. The study was presented to the state and widely circulated through various magazines and websites. Most importantly the advocacy asked for recognition of women farmers as farmers.The recommendations included implementation of land reforms, practice of agro ecology , rejuvenation of water resources, placing eco feminism ,land rights for women, bio diverse ,environmentally sustainable agriculture as the centre for planning.
