A social awareness meeting for youth was held on February 28 at the cemetery. At the beginning of the meeting, a moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the late former Communist Party leader, Nallakannu Ayya. During the event, Bhaskar spoke about the inequalities between Vanniyar, Muslim, and Dalit communities in his area and highlighted the lack of basic facilities for them. Thenmozhi, from the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam, explained Periyar’s ideas about rejecting blind belief in God and stressed that women should have equal opportunities in education, jobs, and politics without discrimination. She also spoke about superstitions in religions. Chandra spoke about Dr. Ambedkar and his ideas on social justice. Edwin spoke about the life of Nallakannu Ayya and emphasized religious harmony and the need to end caste discrimination. He also mentioned that Buddhism is clear and does not support backward practices. After the speeches, a question-and-answer session was conducted with the participants. Around 50 women took part in the meeting.
