Tamilnadu Dalit Women’s Movement Celebrates Women’s Day

Women’s Day was celebrated on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Dalit Women’s Movement at the Old Bus Stand in Arakkonam, Ranipet district. Uma welcomed the participants. The meeting was presided over by Sauriyammal, the President of the Tamil Nadu Dalit Women’s Movement. Special invitees Silomonmani, Shanthi, Anbarasi, Kannagi, and Lakshmi attended and addressed the gathering.

During the meeting, several demands were raised. The participants emphasized that women should have political power, and that 50% reservation should be provided for women in politics. They also demanded equal pay for men and women for equal work, the prevention of violence against women, and land rights and land distribution for women. They further demanded that the 100-day employment scheme be increased to 200 days, and that the daily wage be increased to ₹600.



The participants raised slogans stressing these demands. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Poongodi.
