Uniting Against Domestic Violence: A Workshop for Women Leaders Legal in Pudukkesavaram

Pudhukesavaram women were trained on the laws to protect women from domestic violence. The meeting was chaired by Advisory Committee Member Pramila. Tamil Nadu Dalit Women's Movement leader Fatima inaugurated the meeting. Tamil Nadu Women's Uprising Organization Chennai Salin Maria, National Alliance of People's Movements Arul, and Chennai lawyer Mr. Manoj participated as special invitees.

Advisory Committee Member Mrs. Pramila spoke about various types of violence against women, female infanticide, dowry abuse, the idea that women are slaves to men, patriarchal attitudes, etc., and emphasized that women should take leadership roles.

Writer Salin Maria said that Tiruvallur district has a large number of Dalits, but it is the district where the most people are affected. She said that crores of rupees allocated for SC and ST are being sent back without being spent. Legal awareness is not sufficient among women, and women should get basic legal awareness, and most importantly, they should fight in unity.

Leader Souri Amma shared how she handled the issue of taking money without permission by SHG bureaucrats and found a solution.

While speaking, Leader Sharmila spoke about the problems she faced while working in the shoe company and led strikes against wages for workers, and for Van drivers the solutions she found for them.

Social activist Mr. Arul said that he has met the legislators and strongly demanded to prevent violence against women. He stressed that women should take leadership roles. He said that since liquor shops have been abolished in Bihar, crime has decreased by 22 percent. Women are the ones who are affected by alcoholism. He also mentioned that Rs. 319 is allocated under the 100-day work program, but only Rs. 250 is given.



Advocate Manoj said that women should know the Constitution.

Finally, Bhaskar, from the Tamil Nadu Small Farmers' Federation, coordinated the program. Advocate Austin concluded the program with thanks.


Manogari, Sarasvathi, and Gajalakshmi from the SRED also participated in the program.
