A vermicompost preparation training was held on 02.08.2025 at the Kaverirajapuram Dalit Women Collective Farm Centre. College students and Dalit women Collective Farm women participated through the organic farming.
During the session, students were shown how to prepare coconut husk, dried leaves, cow dung, water, and use earthworms for making vermicompost. There was also a discussion on biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and their effects on farming.
The importance of organic farming was explained by referring to the contributions of M.S. Swaminathan and Nammalwar. They believed in natural farming methods and were inspired when they noticed that plants grew well in places where explosives were once made during World War II, leading them to explore organic materials for farming.
A farmer also shared his experience and spoke about organic farming, vermicomposting, and agroecology. He explained that water and green leafy plants are important for healthy crops. He encouraged everyone to grow plants like drumstick, banana, and papaya at home for better health and sustainability.
